Where To Buy LEGO® Creator Emerald Night Train (10194)

Which Lego train system is this? This is Lego's first engine and car for the new Power Function's (PF) train system. PF motors and infrared control devices are now common across a number of Lego product lines (e.g., Creator and Technic). If you have the old 9 volt system (which many Lego users were sorry to see discontinued) you can attempt a modification and place an old motor unit on this new train (others are doing this to varying degrees of elegance); axle width has not changed. If you have either of the RC train sets (7897 and 7898, which were brought out after 9 volt in 2006 and are still available), those units have their own motor and infrared units (i.e., non-PF). PF and RC use the exact same track.

What do you need to run this train? This set does not come with any track or any of the motors or infrared receivers or control units. The track is currently (summer 2009) available in four sets: 7896 (straight and curved), 7895 (switches), 8867 (flexible track), and 7996 (double switch). If these are not readily available on Amazon, check for them at Lego. The PF units are usually a little more difficult to source and the best selection is typically directly from Lego. The PF units required for this train are: 8882 (1 XL motor), 8884 (IR receiver), 8878 (battery), 8879 (remote control), 8887 (transformer for the battery). You can also add a light (8870). The cost of these accessories is usually more than the Emerald Night set itself.

Comments on the set: It is not much of a stretch to say that this is the most finely rendered steam engine that Lego has ever offered for sale. The engine it most closely approximates is a British Pacific Class A3. The set compares nicely to the best of the 9 volt era sets (e.g.: 10020 Sante Fe Super Chief, 10022 and 10025 Santa Fe passenger cars, 10133 BNSF, 10170 TTX, and 10183 Hobby Train). With the Emerald Night, Lego is introducing new driving wheels. If you look closely at them, you will notice that not all of the drivers have flanges (so called blind drivers); this allows the train to negotiate curves that would otherwise be too tight. When Lego announced the Emerald Night, they released a short video of the train's designer, Jamie Berard, discussing the set. I recommend that you find the video on the net as it will give you a better sense of the scale of the train and its novel features. As of late 2009, at least one Lego representative has stated that they will not be producing stand-alone passenger car sets for the Emerald Night. Cheap LEGO Castle Tower Raid

This is a really fun set. Lego is top notch toys for replay value, but this one is staying assembled because the play value is already so high!

You won't be able to get enough of this thing. I am a collecter I'm 29 years old, I have played with this several times. It is very ingenius. First it looks awesome, great detail from the wheels to the battering ram. Second the battering ram is cool! It is rubber band loaded pull back and blammo crownie castle walls!! Third the string pulled platform with the sword wielding troll is super cool, you can seriously attack castles in this way! Fourth and my personal favorite, the tower which the trolls attack has a wall made to break a way and release the floor of the second story prison cell which sends the captave troll flying out the bottom of the tower through the break away door, straight back to his troll buddies!! Just a fantastic play set. Fun to build and loads of traps that are a lot of fun to put together and have your mini-figures run around in. What's best about this set is the myriad traps plus you get 10 mini figures! Was skeptical on the price but once you see how many pieces, how much fun you have building and lot's of mini figures, it's worth it.

PRO's-Overall design, the traps (collapsing stairs, skull drops, hidden darts, swinging swords, retratable stairs w/hidden spike trap, spinning bridge for the crystal skull alien pilots w/hidden pit fall,etc.), cool small half-track tank, 10 mini-figures, unique crystal skull lego heads (which you can see a brain inside, hidden rooms, tiki headed looking archway that mounts onto the temple (archway has darts for eyes and extra darts as a head-dress. Also, lego FINALLY make a large brick base plate to build the large temple onto. Make's it sturdy and easy to build onto, as well as move around (pick up). Lego should do more of this with large sets and ships as well.

LEGO City Garage (7642) Get it now!

I purchased the Lego City Garage for my nephew's birthday. I had as much fun as him in putting it together which did not take that long. Overall, I felt that it was well worth the purchase; however, I wish that it had more to it than just a little office, main garage floor, and a "tight" garage for the tow truck. It seemed a little sparse not having more items to interact with in the main garage. Also, I would have preferred the whole thing to be a bit bigger for the price I paid.

All this being said, I was impressed that we had to build the majority of the buildings from the familiar small Lego pieces instead of pre-fabricated walls (although, there are some of these used). It was also nice to have 3 vehicles to interact with this item.

LEGO City Switch Tracks Best Quality

We bought this set for my six year-old son for Christmas, and it was one of the best purchases we've ever made for him. The directions were a little complex, but I helped him assemble everything (which was fun for me, anyway!); and he played with it non-stop for days. He especially loved the 7 speeds on the train engine, and the fact that it goes forward or backward at all 7 speeds. One warning - the train tends to fly off the track at high speeds, unless you have extra tracks to put in to make the curves less sharp. My son actually loved to make the train fly off, but it tends to break apart a bit when this happens (which is just the nature of Legos, no big deal). LEGO Creator Green Grocer Review

I have built the Cafe Corner set and thought that was the "cat's meow" until I built this one. This set by far more complex and detailed! But it does add nicely to the Cafe Corner (these sets were meant to connect together).

This is easily one of the main sets that any serious Lego collector should own. I personally do not recommend it to anyone younger than 12 or so - this set has many tiny pieces and takes a while to assemble. For me, it took about 5 hours or so in total but I built it one floor at a time over three days (the middle floor is quicker than the top or bottom as it has the least amount of pieces). With that said, patience is needed!

This set is nicely adorned with the grocer (first floor) pretty much fully stock/furnished. The second and third floor have a few basic starter items (grandfather clock, fire place, radiator) and plenty of room for your own ideas if you wish to finish furnishing it.

I hope Lego will add more of these models is a large scale release (you can purchase user made models off of the Lego website, but they are expensive!).Get more detail about LEGO Creator Green Grocer.

This is a GREAT set!!!! Looks very nice when completed and was a ton of fun to put together. The set itself is built very solidly except for the tower sections that get placed on the corners. They can be a little wobbly when moving around so I would recommend leaving them down until you are completely finished or place a small amount of glue down to increase stability. I must first say my favorites are the knights and crownies, but I have to say the fantasy era toys make the trolls look pretty awesome, the best toys in the fantasy era castle line in my opinion for play value are the troll toys, this is no exception.

I will tell you as with this new pirate sets ship brickbeards bounty, this troll ship is awesome. I have both ships, I like them both. I am reviewing the troll ship so here I go!! First the hull, some lego enthusiast won't like it because it is a boat hull and it comes in large pieces instead of tiny individual bricks, that doesen't bother me! I like the hull I think it looks great way to go lego. Second the ships features are pretty cool, you have trolls rowing on the oars being driven by the beat of the drum played by a giant troll!!! being whipped by a troll slave master!! hilarious lego. Third the sails are pretty nice fabric and they stay well with the system lego made. Fourth I really like hoist and net that holds a dwarf the trolls sworn enemy!! It really works and looks awesome. Fith the ship has a weapon that shoots what I will call missles It holds 3 shoot 1 and another drops into place repeat!!

This SpongeBob lego is pretty good. My son who is 4 years old, loves (I mean really loves) SpongeBob. I got this for him for Christmas when Amazon had it on sale for $29.99. He made it very quickly and loves playing with it. The only problem is that the Lego construction of the whole set is very wobbly. I wish they would have put some thought into it and made it more sturdy. The start and the finish lines keep on falling down. I love how Mrs. Puff has an hollow inner part of her upper half so you can store a couple of one piece legos inside. It's a great toy and it's very hard to get Mrs. Puff so it's well worth the price. We don't usually spend this money for a toy, but we bought it as a special reward. It is an awesome toy.

There are a lot of steps to creating the trains. Yet, even though the toy says that it is for ages 6-12, our 5 1/2 year old was able to assemble it himself. He just wanted us to be nearby, but one he got started, he was able to follow the directions and create the trains and small station. He had many days of fun creating the trains, but now that it is done, he loves playing with it.

LEGO Technic Go Kart (8256) Review

This is a very good set, once it's built. The steering doesn't work as advertized. The steering range is only about 1/2 of what the picture shows, but with a small modification, it can be made to go that far. The piston is not attached directly to the rear axel as the picture leads you to believe, but is turned by two gears, one on the axel, and one on the rod that turns the piston. Once it's built, though, it has a very low profile. It sits very low to the ground, just like the real thing. It also has a very "fast and mean" look to it, no matter what angle you look at it from. However, it is not for the begginning builder. Sometimes, Technic can be hard to work with.

A couple of years ago, my son received his first Thomas Lego Duplo set (James at Knapford Station). It was fun to make James, but the fact that it didn't have enough tracks to play was frustrating to him. He was also a bit young (2 1/2) to play himself.

However, since he's been four, he has enjoyed the sets that we've collected.

Spencer is really cool. Whether your child is a fan of Thomas and Friends or not, he or she would probably enjoy playing with this set. There are enough tracks to make a circular track, so along with the Legos to make the station and the Spencer train, this is a complete set.

One drawback to this set (as compared to some others, such as the Thomas starter set) is that it doesn't come with the instructions on putting each part together.
