LEGO Duplo Legoville Garbage Truck (5637) Top Quality

My 3-year-old son received this for his birthday 2 weeks ago and has played with it everyday since. The truck is very realistic. It comes with a garbage can that clips onto the back of the truck to simulate actually dumping in the garbage. There is also a garbage man and some loose larger legos that are included.

My 7-year-old was curious at first and now not at interested so I think the 3-4 year old preschool range is perfect.

LEGO Castle Drawbridge Defense (7079) This instant

First off, if nothing else, this set is worth it for the minifigs alone. You get an awesome golden knight and a queen, both unique to this set, as well as a standard crown knight and the rare jester minifig. On the evil side of things, you get an awesome grim reaper-esque skeleton with skeleton horse, a black skeleton, and another white skeleton. Seven minifigs is a lot for a set in this price range!

Accessories are cool too! Lots of weapons, including a flail, scythe, golden sword, crossbows, and even axes and glaives used in the tower's decor can come down if needed for a fight scene. The golden knight's armor and helmet are awesome, the shields are neat, and the queen's crown is adorable.

Secondly, the tower itself is impressive. The drawbridge mechanism works well, and the flick-fire ballista is neat too. My only complaint is that there isn't a whole lot of display (or play) room in the tower itself. To remedy this, I bought a seven dollar green baseboard with this set. The entire set fit on it perfectly. I would highly recommend purchasing the baseboard, which is a little extra cost but results in a much more satisfying play or display experience.

I bought this set on a whim, thinking of the Lego castle set I always wanted as a kid. I had fun building it; it's nothing too complex, but interesting anyway. The drawbridge mechanism is a stroke of genius. Also, when I took it home from college, my much younger siblings had a blast playing with it!

LEGO Castle Building Set (6193) Best Quality

When I first saw this set on the store shelf, it called to mind the year as a kid (circa 1980) when I worked and saved my allowance to buy LEGO's original Yellow Castle set. The yellow brick walls, the black supports under the tower, and the "old-school" brick horse in this miniature set make me think that someone in the LEGO group consciously meant to pay tribute to the older, original set.

The new set contains 137 pieces, and in my opinion, has a healthy balance of base plates, large bricks, smaller bricks, roof slopes, arches, and round bricks, with several specialized pieces as well. One mini-figure knight is included, armed with a sword. Among the specialized pieces are included tree branches, flags, a length of chain, bricks with animal eyes painted on, two hinges, and three axle pieces.

There are plenty of bricks in the package with which to experiment and build one's own ideas. However, the set includes instructions for building a horse, a catapult, and a small castle. These three items can be built concurrently with the bricks in the set, and several more bricks will be left for other ideas. Photographs on the box and in the instructions include ideas for building three other types of castles or structures as well as a dragon and another horse.

The small, finger-flick catapult is a simple idea, but can potentially provide quite a bit of fun in trying to maximize the distance it will toss a brick by adjusting the position of the lever.

The draw bridge is attached to the castle by a length of chain and can be raised and lowered by turning a piece representing a miniature winch. The drawbridge would function better if it were simply attached by a piece of string, however the plastic chain lends character to the structure.

The horse and the dragon as shown on the box are simply cute, but rely on several of the same pieces, and therefore cannot be built at the same time.

It would have been nice if the creators at LEGO had included a shield for the knight as they have with nearly every other set in the Castle series, but perhaps one of the designers, in considering costs, felt it was better to include three or four other structural pieces rather than one shield for the mini-figure.

My main reservation with this set is its price; Its MSRP of around U.S. $10 seems a little expensive in my opinion. However, compared to other new LEGO sets with prices averaging about ten cents per brick and more, some may consider that this a reasonable price. At MSRP, I did consider buying it off the store shelf, but passed it up. Star Wars Anakin's Jedi Starfighter was one of two that my grandson wanted for his 7th birthday. I was able to find this one so I purchased it and sent it off to them in Illinois. Today,February 26,2010 is his big day and when I called my daughter and her husband and the kids early this A.M. he was too busy playing with it to come to the phone. LEGO Atlantis Neptune Carrier (8075) Decide Now

Admit I had my doubts when my 7 year old wanted this set recently. He thought it looked cool from the box but I wondered what it had to offer beyond the new Atlantis underwater theme. Turns out that the set is a hit on several levels...he loves it (no surprise there) but it's also nicely designed and offers more than a new theme.

As with most sets, there are a few small ships and vehicles to build first, which is nice. The main Neptune ship is the real draw. It has some terrific features...there are cool new pieces and the finished ship is also designed to allow bay doors to open and push back in a creative way that transforms the shape of the vehicle. Very cool and not something you see with every set.

I guess the best testament I can share is that my son usually takes apart a set within a week after building it and just uses the pieces for his own creations. This one has already lasted two weeks, with no sign that it's coming apart any time soon! Couple of other notes: my son has been putting together Lego sets himself for several years and didn't have any trouble with this one. I bought this set because I wanted the cool figures and vehicles for my Lego collection. This set comes with one awesome Kranxx figure that has a very detailed printed head, torso, and legs. This set also comes with one extremely cool Space Police officer figure that has a very detailed printed head, torso, and legs. He also has a black helmet and visor, and a black oxygen tank (it could also be a jetpack). The officer's bike is a very interesting build but when finished it looks sort of odd and front heavy. The bike is equipped with two freeze ray cannons (one on each side of the bike) that also double as flick-missiles. Kranxx's hotrod is a very enjoyable build and when finished it looks fast and dangerous. The hotrod is outfitted with one laser cannon and a jet engine which release a huge flame of fire! My son has put together almost every new Star Wars Lego, this was the last large set. It is really cool but it has a lot of the dark gray pieces as structural components. In all sets, the dark gray pieces work apart on their own for some weird reason, they have a higher oil content or something. That, combined with a delicate frame that moves in a lot of ways, and a lot of piece that are designed to barely hang on, makes this ship very delicate and hard to play with without it breaking apart. Glue this one up as you build it.

I bought this set because I wanted the figures (especially Yoda) and the AAT for my Lego collection. This set comes with one awesome Yoda figure that has a very detailed printed head and torso. He also has short legs and he is equipped with a silver lightsaber hilt with a light green blade. In addition to Yoda this set comes with one normal clone trooper figure that has a printed head, torso, and helmet. He is equipped with a blaster rifle. This set also comes with three Super Battle Droid figures which are standard except for awesome new rocket-launcher arms. In addition to the Super Battle Droids this set comes with two normal battle droid figures. The AAT itself is a fairly complex build and when finished it looks very tough and intimidating. The tank is equipped with a primary blaster turret which rotates and moves up and down; this turret is manned by one of the normal battle droids. The AAT is also equipped with four secondary blaster cannons (two on each side of the cockpit) that double as flick-missiles. The tank also has a cockpit that doubles as an escape speeder; the other normal battle droid mans the cockpit. Well, here are the basics of the set:

Buy LEGO Large Green Building Plate (15" X 15")

I bought two of these baseplates for my children (ages 2 & 4) for 50% off at the Lego site (only difference is the one I purchased is red in color). Definitely check the Lego site before purchasing to see if they are offering any of these on clearance.

This baseplate, which measures 15" x 15" (or 22 x 22 pegs), is absolutely essential to building really fantastic Duplo structures. For some reason I can't find a single store within a 50-mile radius that carries these (I've looked) and that makes absolutely no sense, because what exactly are you going to do with Legos if you don't have a sturdy foundation for the building? Up to this point my daughters have busied themselves making large towers that often topple, scattering the stacked Legos everywhere and creating disappointment. With this baseplate (and a few of the other smaller building plates we purchased) the possibilities are truly limitless. You can actually build a structure for little people to play in, landscape a yard/garden area and plant little flowers around it, and because the baseplates holds it all in place you aren't losing pieces left and right. To be honest, when the kids go to bed tonight, I think I'm going to play! I never had one of these baseplates when we had Legos growing up, but I think it was the one thing we were always missing, and the reason my interest in Legos was never very intense.

So, I think this is a great piece, and without a doubt, it's essential. My only disappointment is with just how thin it is. Basically, if you pick it up by a single corner, the rest of the plate bows. If you hold it up to the light you can see through it - just to give someone who is purchasing on of these sight-unseen an idea of how thin it is. Because this is, as all Lego pieces are, made of ABS plastic, the material is extremely rigid, and I dare say even brittle. It's not a type of plastic that is made to withstand being bent. If we don't mount these plates on something to increase their stability, I feel quite sure that one of the children (most likely my two year old who already shows an interest in roughhousing with the baseplate) will step on it while it's on an uneven surface and break it, or use it as a weapon to club someone over the head and break it. And because it would be a real pain to replace, and because at full price it's not exactly a cheap item, I really really, do not want them to break these plates.

If you happen to have rough-playing youngsters who aren't especially careful with their toys, I would either think of this as a supervise-only item (which is a pain), mount it on a rigid surface (but where to find a surface made of safe materials?) or maybe postpone buying it until the kids are older, and in the meantime stick with the smaller collection of 3 building plates offered on the Lego site (for about a third of what the large base costs here). While the smaller building plates are obviously not the 'ultimate' in Lego building accessories (they measure 7.5" x 3.75" or 12 x 6 pegs), they definitely up the versatility of the basic pieces significantly and allow for a lot more building possibilities. At 1/2 the thickness of standard bricks, the small plates are quite a bit more durable than the large baseplate. They could be broken, but it would require some serious effort and intent, I'd imagine. Lastly, the smaller building plates can also be stacked on top of Duplo bricks as well as serving as a small baseplate, while this large 15" x 15" plate could not, say, serve as a roof for a house. The large baseplate is definitely a single-function item.

I didn't feel like I bought these equipped with a realistic picture of what I was getting, and I hope I can provide that to someone else considering adding the baseplate to their collection. I'm glad I got our baseplates on sale, as I may have been a little disappointed in their durability had I paid full price. I think in the long run, they'll be a great addition to our Lego set - so I have no regrets, but I think the smaller plates will be more durable and suit our needs better while our children are young.

This scene in the movie, by far in my opinion, is one of the funniest moments in movie history. Honestly. What was just a silly thing Harrison did on the set because he wasn't feeling well, turned out to be many people's favorite scene in the film. Funny stuff! I'm so glad that they came out with a Lego set depicting this scene. It has so many details, including apples to sell in the marketplace, and the always coveted knife that the "bad guy" wanted to use to harm Indy. Of course, the whip is there and this set has 4 figures which is a bit unusual in this price range. It goes together pretty quickly and is quite fun when put with the other "Raiders" sets, especially the temple escape. It's quite loved in this house, super cute, tons of play time hands down. This set was a birthday present for my 8 yo daughter and she just loves it! The pink bricks are so cute. She loves making the houses, car, etc. pictures from the instruction book. We combined this set with the boy box set similar to this, she and her brother love playing with these legos. Lots of tiny pieces, but so much fun!
