My one year old son loves the mallet that comes with this toy. He chews on it, bangs with it, and carries it with him while crawling. He finally got the hang of hitting the balls so they drop down and chases the balls all over our wood floor. The only drawback (which is being nit-picky) is that sometimes when the balls drop they get stuck in the box. They need to insert two angled slats of wood in the interior of the box so that the balls don't get stuck. It's only a problem because when the balls don't come out, my son gets frustrated and ends up tossing the box on it's side or upside down and then he gets more frustrated because he can't play with it at that point.
